About SuperSpeed™ Bearings

Combining our 35 years of bearing industry experience with years of on-track experimentation and testing, we have developed four fundamental principles for the design and manufacture of all of our ultra-low friction bearings, fully optimizing them for speed and long life:

1. Ceramic hybrid bearings are best for all the reasons we already know – higher speed, lower friction, longer life, less weight, corrosion resistance, etc. But they can be made even better...

2. Studies by leading bearing manufacturers and independent labs have shown that 60% of the friction of a bearing comes from the contact seals that rub the inner ring.

Solution: All SuperSpeed™ bearings utilize our special ultra-low friction seals, which virtually eliminate seal friction. The inner ring of all of our bearings - both axle and hub bearings - are custom manufactured with a grove for the seals to ride in without rubbing the ring, minimizing friction. The seals can also be easily snapped out for lubrication for top performance and long life.

3. The same studies have shown that 30% of the friction of a bearing comes from the lubricant, especially grease.

Solution: All SuperSpeed™ bearings come with a light oil lubricant and no grease in the bearings. We've also developed our own SuperSpeed Bearing Lube #32 with PTFE and hBN, optimized for the highest speed and longest bearing life possible.   Learn more about SuperSpeed™ BL32 here.

4. The typical knurled set screws are a pain – they damage and distort the axle and make it difficult to remove. They also create undesirable stress points, and need to be checked for tightness frequently. Non-knurled (cup) set screws are a little better but don't fully address the problem.

Solution: All SuperSpeed™ bearings with set screws come with specially manufactured “ball point” set screws originally developed by NTN to reduce or eliminate damage and deformation, and last over 7 times longer than typical set screws.
